Join us on September 22, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (EDT) for a Lunch & Learn hosted by Leaf & Limb.
This session, “From Wasteland to Wonder – Easy Ways We Can Help Heal Earth in the Sub/Urban Landscape,” will feature Basil Camu, Co-Founder of Leaf & Limb and Project Pando, Treecologist, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, and author of From Wasteland to Wonder.
Drawing from ecology, urban forestry, and Leaf & Limb’s evolution into a Nature-first tree and land care company, Basil will challenge conventional approaches to lawns, trees, and the modern landscape. The discussion will explore how everyday sub/urban spaces can become powerful engines for biodiversity, climate resilience, and human well-being by working with natural systems rather than against them.
Attendees will learn how foundational systems such as photosynthesis and soil formation regulate water, store carbon, and support biodiversity, as well as how common land-management practices can disrupt these systems. From there, Basil will share practical approaches to restoring ecological function—from protecting mature trees and planting young saplings to creating pocket forests, native thickets, and native meadows.
Attendees will gain insight into:
How photosynthesis and healthy soils support water cycles, carbon storage, and biodiversity
How common sub/urban land-management practices can disrupt natural systems
Practical strategies for protecting mature trees and establishing young trees
How pocket forests, native thickets, and native meadows can restore ecological function
Ways individuals and communities can participate in creating healthier, more resilient landscapes
This session is designed to provide valuable perspective for developers, engineers, planners, landscape architects, arborists, and land professionals interested in creating healthier, more resilient communities and landscapes.
