  • Terracon Winterpark 1675 Lee Road Winter Park, Florida, 32789 United States (map)

Join us on August 26, 2026, from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM (EDT) for a Lunch & Learn hosted by Terracon.

This session, “Beneath the Surface: Understanding Florida Sinkholes,” will feature Shenna McMaster, P.E., and Jay Casper, P.E., Senior Engineers at Terracon, who each bring more than 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. Together, they will explore the geologic conditions that contribute to sinkhole formation and what land professionals should know when evaluating development sites.

The discussion will examine the soils, geology, and environmental conditions that lead to sinkhole activity in Florida, along with how geotechnical investigations help identify potential risks. Attendees will gain practical insight into site evaluations, risk mitigation, and the role of geotechnical engineering in successful land development.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • How sinkholes form and why they occur in Florida

  • The soils and geologic conditions that contribute to sinkhole activity

  • The role of geotechnical investigations during site selection

  • How sinkhole risks are evaluated and managed

  • Best practices for reducing geotechnical risks during development

This session is designed to provide valuable perspective for developers, engineers, planners, builders, and land professionals working on projects throughout Florida.
