Florida Cleanup Sites: What Developers Need to Know About Contamination

  • M/I Homes 4211 W Boy Scout Blvd Suite 300, Tampa, FL 33607 Lutz, FL, 33549 United States (map)

Join us on April 23, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM (EST) for a Lunch & Learn hosted by M/I Homes of Tampa, with lunch provided by LevelUp

This session, “Florida Cleanup Sites: What Developers Need to Know About Contamination,” will feature Ladies in Land member, Lori Coolidge, Environmental Services Manager at Colliers Engineering & Design, who will provide an in-depth look at Florida cleanup sites and the role contamination plays in land development.

During this session, Lori will break down how chemical and petroleum contamination is identified, regulated, and remediated, with a focus on real-world development scenarios. The discussion will highlight how these environmental factors differ from typical nutrient-related considerations and why they are critical to understand early in the development process.

The session will also explore key municipal requirements—and how these regulations impact site feasibility, timelines, and costs. Attendees will gain practical insight into navigating environmental risks and making informed decisions during due diligence and project planning.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • Common Florida property types associated with chemical and petroleum contamination — including agricultural land, golf courses, dry cleaners, and gas stations

  • How environmental site assessments identify and evaluate contamination risks

  • What remediation considerations look like for each property type

  • How local municipal requirements factor into the development process

Whether you're a developer, engineer, attorney, or planner, this session will provide practical knowledge on how to identify contamination risks early and navigate the environmental considerations that can shape the timeline, cost, and feasibility of a project.
